Advent week #4, A time for Peace

O.K. so the special day is less than a week away and with the beginning of the fourth week  of Advent we light the “Angel’s Candle“, representing PEACE. In expectation of the arrival of the Christ child we’ve celebrated HOPE, LOVE and JOY in the first three weeks and this week, tradition reminds us of the promise of PEACE for us all.

For the Hebrews who were waiting for Messiah’s arrival, PEACE was the fulfilment of two thousand years of their covenant with Abraham, with Moses and King David… the final fulfilment of their promised rest. It represented “SHALOM”

Shalom (שָׁלוֹם) shalom is a Hebrew word meaning peace, completeness, and welfare and can be used idiomatically to mean both hello and goodbye. As it does in English, it can refer to either peace between two entities (especially between man and God or between two countries), or to the well-being, welfare or safety of an individual or a group of individuals (Wikipedia)

As we approach our final week before Christmas day, take a moment with your family to consider what “PEACE” might mean for you this year. Will it be the determination to be at “Peace” with one another in your family? Or maybe the decision we might need to make, to leave your worries and stress from our crazy busy lives at the door when we arrive home. Intentionally releasing our control so that we can enjoy the holidays with real comfort and rest, fully at “Peace” with the world outside and re-focused on those we love? Or maybe “Peace” for you might be the final determination to “trust” God, after a lengthy struggle to understand and get comfortable with the concept of Jesus Christ, is it time for you to quit fighting His message of Hope, Love and Joy that gives PEACE for a lifetime?

I hope so.

Christmas is above all else a celebration. A recognition of the deepest love we can ever experience, of our father in heaven sending the most precious of gifts to His lonely and exhausted creation. The gift of new life, of renewed hope and of PEACE. Clearly we can’t generate this kind of deep and enduring “peace” on our own, it’s going to take someone giving it to us where we can’t find it or manufacture it ourselves.

Take a moment if you need to,  maybe it’s time to re-connect in prayer with your heavenly Father. Ask Him for this “PEACE”  and as you do… take the risk of letting go of the need to be in control of your life. You won’t regret it. Instead of your life spinning out of control and becoming more stressful… you will be surprised to find the exact opposite occur. Nothing my have changed in your life externally, but the way you respond to those issues will be substantially different, I promise.

Merry Christmas to you all, and as you rush to finish up your holiday preparations… be content. Be full of Love and Hope and Joy ! The King of PEACE has come indeed… For you.

“Peace Out”
